Can I open a bank account without an adult?

  • Can I open a bank account without an adult?
  • Why is my $528 paycheck only $448.62?
  • I got a job offer by text. Is it real?
  • Every apartment says I have no credit history.
  • What does a credit freeze cost?
  • I have $40 left and rent is due in nine days.

Penny is the AI tutor in every module. It answers in the module you are in, about the thing you are stuck on, and it is there whether or not anyone else is.

About FluentFi

FluentFi is a full-semester personal finance course for high schools, powered by Penny, an AI tutor that adapts to every student. Penny helps explain course concepts. It does not provide personal financial advice. The course is designed to be taught with or without a finance specialist on staff.

Why FluentFi Exists

A first paycheck, a first credit card, a first bill with their own name on it: every young person meets these within a few years of leaving school, and too few are taught how they work. Schools are starting to change that. California, for one, now requires a stand-alone personal finance course from the 2027–28 school year, and makes it a graduation requirement for the class of 2031. The mandate is new, but the need is not.

The challenge is that money is a subject where the same lesson lands differently for each student. Every student brings their own question and hits their own moment when an idea finally clicks, and no single explanation reaches all of them.

Some want to hear it explained a second way. Some want to work the numbers themselves. Some would rather ask quietly.

FluentFi is built to meet all of them.

How the Course Works

Every module runs the same three sessions, so students always know what comes next, whether they are working through it in class or on their own. Teachers can assign them on their own schedule.

STEP 1

Learn

A story that opens the topic, the core ideas with real cases, the vocabulary, and a short reflection.

STEP 2

Apply

Two more ideas with cases, a simulation where the student makes the decisions, and a written assignment.

STEP 3

Assess

A recap, a graded written assignment, and a quiz. The assignment and the quiz are scored on the server, not in the browser.

21 modules across 5 units. 16 of them cover the essentials of personal finance, including everything California requires under AB 2927. The 5 marked Beyond the Basics go further, into how a business reads its own numbers and how to work for yourself.

One Course, Tailored to Each Student

FluentFi is built around one idea: the course stays the same, but the way each student moves through it does not. Penny listens for where a student is and adapts, by re-explaining, re-framing, or stepping back and letting them explore, so that financial confidence is within the reach of every student, no matter where they start.

Explained until it lands.

A student can ask anything, and ask it again. Penny answers the question actually asked, and explains it another way if the first way did not land.

Feedback on actual work.

The AI reads what each student writes and responds to that, not a generic template.

All the essential topics, in plain language.

Every personal finance topic a student needs, taught so any student can follow. Covers everything California requires under AB 2927.

Real learning, not clicking through.

Students are graded on what they understand, and the certificate reflects genuine completion.

Our Commitment

FluentFi teaches financial literacy. It is education, not financial advice. The course is mapped to the topics California requires, and where the numbers change from year to year, we point students to the official source rather than presenting ourselves as the final authority.
